However, this is a completely free site that is supported entirely through the sales of CD-ROMs in our web store. No memberships, no third-party ad banners, no stupid f***ing pop-ups. So we don't have a lot of money to throw around hiring the kind of brand name writers you see on Ziff Davis and the like. But we can make it worth your while. If you send us something substantial that we really like, we have a range of rewards to offer, starting with temporary leech FTP access to all the web download files, and moving up to free CD-ROMs and we may even negotiate cash payments if you have something to offer that is truly momentous!
We also welcome casual uploads of fresh new material and fills for the holes in our archive, in return (on the honor system) for your use of this site. By no means will we ever put any kind of a ratio or quota system on this site but if you do use this site a lot, it would be nice if you thought of us when you write or otherwise get your hands on something new. Just visit our ftp site at ftp.artofhacking.com and upload to the /incoming directory. For legal reasons we have made /incoming a write-only black hole, lest some antisocial types come along and upload a whack of kiddyporn where anyone can get it. That is why we'll need you to email us when you've uploaded something.
So what kind of material are we looking for? Well think: this is ArtOfHacking.com - we need articles on hacking, in all its forms - hard core system exploits, phone phreaking (what's left of it anyway), social engineering and other kinds of "wetware" hacking, PC and hardware hacking, you name it! If there is a stupid limitation out there that you have figured out a way around, we want to know about it!
You don't have to write a 20,000 word novella either. If what you have to contribute can be expressed in just a few lines, even better! We welcome simple hints and tips, easter eggs, hidden features and so on.
If we start getting enough text/HTML contributions we may even start putting out an e-zine for distribution to other sites!
Your contributions don't have to be digital, of course. We need fills for the holes in our TAP archive, telephone sounds, and especially recordings of unusual phone calls and phreaking experiences, both recent and not-so-recent. We would also love to be able to put up some photos or videos of hacking experiences, hacker cons, phone company equipment, FBI or Secret Service raids on hackers, what have you. We would be happy to digitize these and return the originals to you.
All we ask of those who do contribute is that you have the legal right to post what you contribute to the Internet. TAP is an exception since no one really owns it and all its issues allow "movement groups" to reproduce it. We think that the Internet is a "movement" group in the spirit of TAP's intent. We think that YIPL and TAP would have been e-zines if the internet as we know it now had existed in the 1970's...
And speaking of rights to reproduce, we do not want you to break any laws acquiring material to contribute to Artofhacking.com. If you send us a manual or something you got from a dumpster, we want to know that you trashed it years ago, and not just today so you'd have something to send us. And we hope you'll understand if we decide against scanning and posting something copyrighted rather than making a new work ourselves out of the non-copyrightable facts contained in what you sent us. If you work for a company like Nortel or Cisco, we don't want you giving us trade secrets or violating any confidentiality agreements. However if you *used* to work for a company like that and have lots of knowledge that you aren't restricted from sharing with us, we welcome whatever knowledge you want us to know!
We thank you in advance for your contributions of information to this site. If you have information you think is valuable enough for us to send you a CD or something, please email us at webmaster@artofhacking.com and describe what you've got. If you want to snailmail us something, please send it to the address below and PLEASE let us know if you need it back. If you want to upload, just FTP to ftp.artofhacking.com.
