BellSouth Voice Mail User Guide

Congratulations on your decision to subscribe to BellSouth Voice Mail service!

With BellSouth Voice Mail service, managing your calls is easy. The service answers calls even when you can't. You can check for messages from any touch-tone phone. You can send a message to other BellSouth Voice Mail customers and you can reply to messages they leave for you.

   1. Setting Up Your Mailbox

The first important step in using your Voice Mail service is setting up your mailbox. You will not be able to use your service until you complete this step. Before you start, think about the greeting you want callers to hear. The greeting can be up to 45 seconds. When you are ready, just follow the instructions below, along with the voice instructions you will hear when you call your mailbox.

   1. How to activate your mailbox
         1. Call your mailbox, see the instructions below under - Calling Your Mailbox
         2. At the prompt enter your temporary Passcode (your home telephone number) if prompted by the voice instructions. Enter a 7 or 10-digit number, as appropriate for your calling area.
         3. Follow the simple voice instructions to create a new 4 to 10-digit Passcode and then press [#]
         4. Follow the simple voice instructions to record the greetings that callers will hear and the name announcement that you will hear whenever you call your mailbox.
         5. Follow the same instructions under #4 to create a busy greeting. Busy greeting is what your callers will hear when your line is busy. (This step is optional and can be added at a later date)
         6. If you have chosen to add submailboxes, follow the voice instructions to create submailboxes. (The host mailbox user who creates the submailboxes will need to take note of the temporary Passcodes that the system assigns and provide these codes to the submailbox users.)
(This step is optional. You can create submailboxes at a later date using the instructions found in the Using Submailboxes section)

   2. Activating submailboxes for the first time
         1. Call your mailbox, see the instructions below under - Calling Your Mailbox
         2. At the prompt enter the temporary Passcode (passcode listed below for the submailbox that you are setting up)
         3. Follow the simple voice instructions to create a new 4 to 10-digit Passcode and then press [#]
         4. Follow the simple voice instructions to record the greetings that callers will hear and the name announcement that you will hear whenever you call your mailbox.
         5. You can also follow the same instructions under #4 to create a busy greeting for each submailbox. Busy greeting is what your callers will hear when your line is busy. (This step is optional and can be added at a later date)
