     There are 30 available positions for Test Boxes.

     The MUP position is usually SNTPCD32-X-0, but it depends
     on whether the TCON takes up a full PCD by itself or is
     connected over 2 different PCDs. The RR/TT cables marked *
     are the ones which connect postions 0-7 to the PCD and these
     are the most commonly used.

     Note : The TCON magazine is just a connection field, and has
     no software associated with it. The TCON devices referred to
     in the section on TCON route data are purely software, and
     do not correspond to the physical TCON magazine. The purpose
     of this magazine is essentially similar to that of an ALRANG,
     in that it spreads all the pairs in a cable (TT/RR) over a
     backplane so that each pair has its own 1/4 plug position in
     that backplane. In this way each KEP test box can be given
     its own unique cable which starts as a Cannon connector and
     splits into a transmit and receive 1/4 plug.

     Note : The cable to the KEP box is wired as follows :

     1/4 plug A positions A02,A04 to Tag 1 and 14 in the Cannon.
     1/4 plug B positions A02,A04 to Tag 4 and 17 in the Cannon.

     There are both COAX and Tip/RING
     sockets for receive and transmit.
     Use whichever is convenient.

     The switches have the following meaning.

     TE  ==> 600 Ohms termination.
     INF ==> Infinite termination i.e. not terminated.

     There are two ways to terminate the KEP and meter. The idea is
     is to avoid double termination, or to bridge the meter to
     compensate for double termination. Bridging adds 6dB to the
     signal level reading, double termination causes a 6 dB loss.

EITHER :

 A) The switch on the KEP should be set to infinity (down), and the
     meter should be set to 600 Ohms un€bridged termination.
 or
 B) The switch on the KEP should be set to terminated (up), and the
     meter should be set to 600 Ohms bridged termination.

    The fine calibation screws are used to calibrate the transmit (T) and
    receive (R) directions for analog test measurments. They have the
    following characteristics.

       Fully Counter Clockwise ==>   > 7dB attenuation.
       Centre position         ==>   ~ 4dB attenuation.
       Fully Clockwise         ==>   < 1dB attenuation.

       The devices are address in the format SNTPCD32-X-Y where
       X is the PCD pointer and Y is the channel pointer within
       the PCD, e.g. the first channel on PCD 0 would be SNTPCD32-0-0.

       The half plug connectors TT and RR in the above diagram have
       the transmit and receive connections for 8 devices in the
       other magazine to which they are connected. When defining
       the test position, check which PCD the TCON is connected
       to and also check which chut/chur cards it goes to. e.g.
       say it is connected to the 3rd & 4th channel card pairs in
       SNTPCD32-1, then the test position would be at SNTPCD32-1-16.

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------

   A position consists of a terminal, a phone known as the operator
   phone (the BNB in command EXTPI), and a KEP 802 001 test box, which
   allows Analog frequency and level meters to be connected to the switch.
   The KEP is connected to a TCON magazine, which can have up to 30 KEPs
   connected to it. The TCON connects to a PCD, which does the D/A, A/D
   and PCM conversions of signals from and to the group switch. The purpose
   of the test position is to enable measurements of frequencies and
   levels of tones from testlines in other offices, and hence determine
   the quality of the transmission on the trunks to the other switch.

  The cables from the TCON (split 1/4 plugs) join into a single
  canon connector at the KEP BOX, and plug in the slot marked TCON.
  Cables from a PCD-D (position 5 and 6) join into a single canon
  connector at the KEP and plug into the slot marked PCDD. This is
  used to enable connection of digital testing instruments.
