Prototype funds approved 40526.0
Warp dynamic dry run testing 43421.9
Space trials 42396.1
Initial order for 6 starships 42398.5
Official addition of Empire class to Klingon fleet 42626.1
The Empire class heavy cruiser was designed to repplace the aging K'T'Inga
class battlecruiser, which had been in use for over 70 years. During the past
70 years there was little use for heavy cruisers due to a combination of the
relative lack of major conflicts and the military preference toward small,
fast attack craft of the K'Tara class. During the period from 8725.0 through
37218.0 the primary roles played by heavy cruisers was as diplomatic curriers
and ceremonial functions. It was during the Romulan attacks on Klingon
colonies bordering the Neutral Zone that the High Council decided that heavy
cruisers would be needed to counter the recieved growing romulan threat.
The Klingon / U.F.P. treaty negotiations of 42896.3 were held aboard the
Klingon heavy cruiser "Alliance" and provided the Federation with it's first
close look at this formidable vessel.

Weapons / Defensive systems overview:
Space Mines:
Self-contained, fixed position, Tritium fusion warheads carring proximity
fuses. Dispersed across spacelines to disrupt commercial shipping. Has
storage capacity for 214 space mines. Space mines can also be fabricated
aboard ship.
Mass 612 Kilos
Maximum warhead blast 206 Megatonnes
Estimated lifespan of armed mine 8 Years
Cloaking Device:
Hybrid design capable of concealing ship from all conventional tracking
devices. Cloaking device utilizes 43% of ships power to maintain. Defensive
shields cannont be engaged while cloaking device is activated. Also, there is
a .3 second delay between cloaking de-activation and shield activation. Ships
phasers can be fired while vessel is cloaked.
Planitary Disruptor Weapon:
Capable of complete atmospheric destruction by inducing fissionable
temperatures into the upper atmosphere of a planet. In a worst-case scenario
one planetary disruptor weapon could strip the atmosphere from a class "M"
planet in under 4 solar days.
In order to acieve maximum efficiancy of the disruptor weapon a
geostationary orbit must be maintaned at an optimum altitude of 120 miles. It
has been calculated that 61% engine capacity is required to hold that orbital
position.
Cloaking device cannot be engaged while the planitary disruptor weapon is in
use.
Deflectors:
- Foreward deflector grid capable of absorbing a peak energy release of 160
megawatts per square meter and particle emmisions up to 4,000 rads per square
meter.
There is a .13 second power-up delay.
- Aft deflector grid capable of absorbing a peak energy release of 84
megawatts per square meter and particle emmisions up to 3,000 rads per square
meter.
There is a .28 second power-up delay.
Forward Tractor Beam:
Tractor beam is located in the forward weapons pod. Tractor beam can be used
while the deflectors are on-line.
Effective range 60,000 Kilometers
Maximum target mass 120,000 Gross tonnage
Photon Torpedo Launch Systems:
- 2 rapid loading photorp launch tubes located in forward weapons pod. Each
tube capable of launching 28 torpedos per minute. Storage capacity in the
forward weapons pod for 306 Klingon standard torpedos.
- 1 Forward photorp launch tube located in upper engeneering section, capable
of launching 8 torpedos per minute. Storage capacity for 22 Klingon standard
torpedos. Due to inadequate exhaust venting an overheat shutdown condition
will occur if more than 8 torpedos are launched successivly.
- 1 Aft photorp launch tube centrally located on the primary hull, capable of
launching 8 torpedos per minute. Storage capacity for 60 Klingon standard
torpedos.
Photon Torpedo Variants:
- Klingon standard phased anti-proton proximity torpedo
Maximum velocity .98 Lightspeed
Maximum warhead capability 46.3 Megatonne
- Navigation beacon, subspace pulse generator.
Range 200 Parsec signal strength
Lifespan 16 Years from internal power supply
Weapons None
Defences None
- Spy drones, similar to Star Fleet Class I probe
Maximum velocity Warp 3.2
Maximum range 60 Parsecs communications restriction envelope
Weapons None
Defences Cloaking device fitted to avoid advanced gereration probes
- Electromagnetic counterjamming drone, fired into battlefield to jam all
subspace communications and long range sensors
Range Unpowered, static
Lifespan 12 Hour jamming capability
Weapons None
Defences None
- Target drone. Used to calibrate phaser tracking computer. This drone is
recoverable and can be reused
Maximum velocity .7 Lightspeed
Maximum range 50,000 Kilometers
- Heavy cruiser signature drone, capable of fooling long-range sensors of
enemy vessels by emmiting high levels of electromagnetic radiation and
subspace distortion to mimic that of a Klingon Heavy cruiser, usually fired
ahead of a starship to draw enemy fire.
Maximum velocity Warp 2.6
Maximum range 13 Parsecs
Weapons None
Defences Partial-field cloaking device
Phasers
- 2 Pulsed phaser cannons located in the forward weapons pod
Maximum output 46 Megawatts
Maximum duration at peak output 16 Seconds
- 6 Phaser banks located a various points on the forward weapons pod
Maximum output each 4 Megawatts
Maximum duration a peak output 3 minutes, 26 seconds
- 2 Phaser banks located on upper engeneering section
Maximum output each 6 Megawatts
Maximum duration at peak output 12 minutes (power derived from main impulse
engines with no battery back-up)
- 4 Phaser banks located amidship on primary hull
Maximum output 4 Megawatts
Maximum duration at peak output 2 minutes, 50 seconds
