The idea behind many of these exercises is to open your mind to new
possibilities. When we tell ourselves over and over again that we
couldn't possibly do something, we are making that our reality. So
instead of saying you have no psychic skills, try to expand the way you
do things to incorporate new ways, new ideas, new beliefs. This will
help you accept the abilities once you begin to work with them.
Be aware when doing exercises that your mood, distractions and time
of day can have an effect.
To that end, here are some solo exercises to try:
1. Change your daily routine. Do things in a different order and different
pace. Change your morning routine. Drive to work or to the store by a
different route. Change the way you eat your meal. Remain aware of
how you feel about expanding and changing your routines. What
happens when you do this? How does it make you feel?
2. Each day, guess what mail will be in your mailbox. Guess the
number of total items, then break them down to advertisements (junk
mail!), personal letters, bills, etc. Don't worry about being right or
wrong...don't attach that much importance to the exercise. Simply ask
yourself, "What mail do I have here today?" Try not to second-guess
yourself or to analyze your answers. When you have an answer, ask
yourself, "Does this feel RIGHT?" "Is this true?" See if you can hear
the answer from within. Don't get crazy if you can't <s>. It takes
practice.
3. If you have to stand in front of a bank of elevators, try to guess which
one will come first. Try this: with the palm of your hand, aim it at each
elevator and see if you can "feel" which one is different from the others
(i.e., it's moving towards your floor at a different speed).
4. With a deck of playing cards, hold them face down in your hand.
Stare at the first card, then close your eyes. Guess what color it will
be: black or red. Write down your guesses for each card, including the
date and time. Look for patterns in your answers. If, for example, you
always pick the color of the NEXT card, you'll need to make an
adjustment. When you're ready, try the same exercise with the suits.

Exercise: Feeling Energy
Note: Be aware when doing exercises that your mood, distractions and
time of day can have an effect.
When doing psychic work, it is important to be able to literally feel or
sense your own and others' energy. Using your hands is one of the
most reliable ways I have found to get a good reading on energy. Try
this exercise on yourself and others:
While standing, pass your hand (palm towards the body) from the top
of your head to your pelvic area. Note any areas that feel different.
The most common feelings will be those of excessive heat or cold, or a
kind of "dense" feeling as if passing through thicker air. Note the
locations of the energy centers.
Usually, heat or density indicate an excess or blockage of energy in
that area of the body, often caused by mental, physical, emotional, or
spiritual situations which are manifesting themselves in that particular
energy area of the subtle anatomy. A coldness or lightness often
indicates a deficiency in energy in that area.
So what use is this test of blockages and deficiencies? It helps the
psychic to have a clear channel when working. Balancing out
blockages and deficiencies in the body, mind and spirit assist the
psychic in receiving clear messages and contacting at a deeper level.
When testing the seeker for energy, oftentimes the psychic can sense,
intuitively, the root of the problem by knowing where the energy is
either blocked or deficient.
In future messages we'll discuss chakras (energy centers that run
along the axis of the spine) and how to clear them in preparation for
psychic work.

Exercise: Quieting The Mind
Many people find meditation difficult because their mental process
keeps interfering. Of course it does! <s> This is the function of your
brain, the reason for its existence!
So, how can you quiet this inner dialogue? Is it really possible to tell
the brain to be quiet for an extended period of time?
Try this exercise:
In a quiet room or space (put the cats and dogs in another
room...they're great distractions!), sit comfortably in a chair with your
feet on the floor and your hands on your knees. Either with your eyes
open or closed (closed might make it easier to concentrate) listen
carefully to your breathing. Do not try to change your breathing pattern,
simply listent to your breath, feel each breath of air as it enters your
lungs, feel the air pass through your mouth or nose.
When a thought comes into your mind, you need to honor the fact that
the thought exists and GENTLY tell it to leave for a while. Imagine
surrounding each thought with a soap bubble and letting it drift upward
in the air. Do not try to force it to leave; simply ask it to go away for a
while and say you'll think about it after your session is done.
In your mind's eye, picture yourself as the base of a great pyramid.
Imagine rays of light and energy emerging from your body and
connecting at one point high up in the sky, up where the light beings
exist. Now extend your pyramid into the earth, deeply rooting yourself,
by imagining rays of light and energy emerging from your body into the
earth below you. See if you can feel the beautiful, yet distinctly
different, energies which come from the sky and the earth. Fill your
pyramid with a softly glowing light (white for spiritual purity, pink for
healing and love, blue for serenity and wisdom).
Once you practice this exercise, you'll be able to do it anywhere...at
home, at work, on a crowded bus, in a movie theatre.
Note: Be aware when doing exercises that your mood, distractions and
time of day can have an effect.

Exercise: Which Psychic Type(s) Are You?
First, read the message entitled "Psychic Ability Types" to learn about
the differences in the psychic abilities.
Next, look at your everyday life, and ask yourself, "Am I a visual person,
a hearing person, or an intuitive/feeling person?" For example, a
professional photographer is clearly a "seeing" type of person.
Phrases which litter their vocubulary include: See what I mean and
Looks like it to me. Clairvoyance might come easiest to this type of
person.
A hearing person might say things like: Sounds good to me and That
rings a bell. Clairaudience might be their strong skill.
An intuitive/feeling person might say: This feels right to me and My gut
reaction is to go for it. Clairsentience might be the easiest to practice
for this type of person.
If you're still unsure, think of something you love...person, place or
thing. What KEY things about it strike you first? What it looks like,
what it sounds like, how it feels, or what emotions it evokes?

Exercise: Receiving and sending psychic messages
Note: this is a partnered exercise. Try it online, on the telephone, or
face-to-face with another person.
1. Choose one person to "send" and one person to "receive". Have the
sender select a fruit or vegetable and create a mental image of it in
their mind. Think of its color, texture, shape, smell, cooking uses, how
it grows, etc. Mentally describe the fruit or vegetable to the sender.
Use words and pictures. Do not try to FORCE the image from the
sender's mind to the receiver. Instead, gently think about the object
and let the sender relax and open up to the energy gradually.
Remember, if you do poorly, the problem may lie with either the
sender, the receiver OR a simple need to practice more. Don't be too
hard on yourselves. After five tries with different fruits or vegetables,
switch sending and receiving positions.
2. Have the sender open a magazine and concentrate on one picture at
a time. The sender should try to "read" the picture for five or six
pictures. The receiver should make note of even "fleeting" ideas and
images. Switch positions and try again.

Exercise: Tapping Into the Universal Energy
Try this exercise alone or in a group:
Sit on a chair, with your back straight and both feet on the floor. Put
your hands on your knees and close your eyes. Starting with the
bottoms of your feet, see or feel the energy rising from the earth,
through the floor, and into your feet. You may feel a sensation in your
feet, which is perfectly normal. Some feel heat or tingling, some "see"
light rising through their feet into their bodies. These are normal
reactions.
When you are ready, begin to move the energy up your legs slowly.
Continue to move the energy upwards, through your torso, up your
neck, into your head and out your arms.
Once you feel or see the energy in you, DO NOT hold it in! Let it flow
out your hands and the top of your head. Your hands might feel warm
or tingling sensations in your hands as the energy passes through
them.
When you're ready, reverse the process, and let the energy go back to
the earth. Try this exercise at home or at work throughout the day.

Exercise: Receiving and Sending #2
1. Using a deck of cards, try the solo exercise in guessing colors with
your partner. Is one person better at sending or receiving?
2. Select a particular color to transmit. The sender should focus on the
color and the objects that are primarily that color naturally. Spend two
minutes on each color, writing down the answers. Spending more
time on each color does not necessarily mean better results. In fact,
the less time the better..don't give that intellectual brain a chance to
kick in! <G>
3. With the playing cards, remove all the Court cards...King, Queen,
Jack and Jokers. You should have 40 cards left. The receiver should
guess, given 15 seconds per card, what each card is. Do not worry
about duplicates! Just write down what you see, feel, hear. Compare
your results with the actual cards. Are you right about the numerical
value, the suit, the color?

Exercise: Sensing Energy from Others
This exercise can be done with one other individual or in groups.
1. In person - Have one person stand with his/her hands at the side.
With your hands extended away from your body, palms toward the
subject, scan about 1" - 4" away from the surface of their clothing, up
and down their spine, first in the back, then in the front. Write down
where you feel hot spots or dense spots or any other sensation you
feel. TAKE YOUR TIME...GO OVER AREAS SEVERAL TIMES IF
NECESSARY. If you're doing it in a group, have everyone scan and
write down their findings. Finally, have the subject tell if they have any
physical, mental, emotional or spiritual problems (very generally, do
NOT pry). Check the subject's responses against your own written
appraisal. If in a group, compare your information with others in a
group.
2. Online or on the phone: Since you cannot scan with your hands, you
must now trust our intuition to do the work for you. Picture in your
mind the subject, and "look" and "feel" with your intuition their energy
centers. Write down what you find, then ask the subject as in Exercise
#1 above.
3. In person - Have your partner remove his or her shoes and move
around the room while you are blindfolded and talking to him or her.
When you say "stop", the person should remain motionless and breath
quietly, so that you cannot locate his or her position with your physical
senses. Can you "feel" your partner's vibrations?

Exercise: Writing a Personal Invocation
Consider these points when writing your own invocation:
1. Who are you calling? What do these spirits/gods/goddesses mean
to you?
2. What are you asking for?
3. What protection and/or guidance do you seek?
4. For what purpose?
5. What do you want to be reminded of?
6. What can you offer the Universe?
Good luck and have fun with it! Be creative...then, share it with all of us
so that we may learn, too.

Exercise: Reading others.
By now you should have worked with your psychic development partner
at least once.
Again, if you do not have a psychic development partner, please let me
know immediately so that you can do this exericse this week.
One partner should volunteer to be the "seeker", the other naturally will
take the role of reader. The seeker can ask for a reading on a specific
topic area or leave it up to the universe to give information that is in the
seeker's best and highest interest.
First, both the seeker and reader should quiet their minds. This can be
done through meditation, prayer, or by reciting an invocation.
Second, create your shield, surrounding yourself in the white light of
truth and inner wisdom.
Third, feel the energy surrounding you, the universal energy you can tap
into for guidance. Breathe it in, let it become part of you.
Fourth, feel the energy coming from the other person (whether the
reading is done in person, on the telephone, or online). Ask yourself
how the energy feels. Then ask the seeker if you are correct in
describing their energy level.
Finally, simply BE. Do not try to force images, words, symbols or
feelings to emerge. Instead, let whatever comes up, come up. Take
all the time you need...this is not a race! Tell the seeker what you are
experiencing. Ask for feedback. If you don't understand something,
first ask the vision, voice or feeling what it's trying to tell you. If you still
don't get anything, tell the seeker what you're seeing, hearing, or
feeling, and ask the seeker for his/her translation of the experience.
Be prepared to discover some very personal things about the seeker. If
the seeker is not open to discussing any topic, he/she should simply
say that they prefer to NOT pursue the topic further. The seeker should
trust the reader completely. If either party feels uncomfortable, discuss
it and try to find the reason for the discomfort.
Remember, this is an exercise, a learning experience. Do not have
high expectations and always remember to give and receive feedback
with grace and respect.

Exercise: A simple way to move to altered states.
On a piece of white paper, draw a concentric circle or spiral with about
seven turns, one to two inches in diameter. Don't be bothered if it isn't
perfect. While seated comfortably and alone, hold the paper and
simply gaze at the spiral for about five minutes. Feel free to blink and
lower your eyelids almost closed if you want to. The less you think
about anything, the better, but don't try to force your thinking to stop.
Let any thoughts drift by while you hold your attention gently on the
spiral. After five minutes or so, close your eyes and let your mind drift
while you observe your own sensations of sight, sound and feeling.
Open your eyes whenever you feel like it.

(to be used as part of your preparation for doing a reading or other
psychic work)
Close your eyes and visualize a membrane circled about two feet from
your body on all sides, like an eggshell, but much finer. It moves with
each breath, with each vibration. See the membrane surface as tough
and healthy and solid all around you. If you find any holes, heal them
with your imagination. Fill the membrane with white light. Breathe that
white light into your every pore, and with each breath, into your lungs
and circulatory system. Seal in all the wise and good things you need
to do your work; seal out the things which will distract you or harm you.
Throughout the reading, reinforce the shield by simply recreating it in
your mind's eye, healing any holes you find.

Exercise: Psychic Healing
Self: Start by imaging the sun as an extremely powerful ball of
dynamic energy, getting a good sense of brilliant light and heat that
emanates from it and endowing it with super healing qualities. Then
you either miniaturize it or bring a portion of it to rest in a ball about a
foot in diameter right above your head. Very slowly then, keeping a
sense of its power and healing nature, you bring it down through the
top of your head and into your body, either allowing it to heal your
whole body or concentrating it on a particular part. You can do this
from five to twenty minutes, depending on your abiltiy to concentrate.
Then you imagine the part as being healed, give thanks, and let the
light go back to the sun until you need it again.
Absentee Healing of Others: Alone or with a group, mention aloud the
name and location of the person to whom you wish to send the healing
energy. Visualize this person as whole and healthy. Mentally, go over
the whole body and direct your energy to the particular part that you
feel needs special attention. You do not have to know the individual to
do this. If you do this with a group, it is helpful if the namer of the
recipient knows where the trouble lies in the body. The group can
choose not to know what the ailment is at the beginning, and at the
end of the healing each can try to identify where the ailment was
located. This exercise can be done at any time in almost any
circumstance.

Exercise: Automatic Writing
First, as always, do your grounding and centering exercises. Next, sit
at a comfortable table or in front of your typewriter or PC. Relax into an
altered state, free of thought and judgment. Patience is a keyword
here; you must wait for the information to begin to flow. You might
want to direct your inner self to write about a certain topic.
In a short time, your hands will automatically begin to write or type.
Don't read what you have written, nor judge the content, spelling or
grammar. After about 15 or 20 minutes, stop writing and review what
you have written.
Automatic writing is fairly easy to accomplish. The most difficult part is
letting your hands operate independently from your mind.
Try it and see what you write! If you like, please share it in a message
on the forum for others to read.

Exercise: Noticing Patterns
When doing your exercises, have you noticed any patterns? Here are
some common patterns to look for:
You get the opposite color, emotion, image, etc. than what was sent.
For example, the sender sends "Joy" and you receive "Sorrow."
You get a particular physical sensation when you know you're intuition
is working well. For many, this manifests as a "gut reaction", a
warming or tingling sensation in the solar plexus region.
You get a headache when sending and receiving for too long or with
too many people. This is especially common if you are the receiver of
the energy. Make sure you are grounded before starting these kinds of
exercises. Make conscious suggestions to yourself that you will allow
the energy to pass *through* you, instead of letting it swirl and gather
within you.
You get "high" when sending and receiving. It often feels very, very
good to do this work. The altered states and the sharing of energy with
others give you a feeling of peace and serenity which may be difficult
for you to attain on your own. Be very careful that you are doing these
exercises to enhance your skill level, and not just to get that high
feeling.

Be sure to ground and center yourself. Then, focus your thoughts and
energy on each chakra in turn, starting with the base chakra. Try to
see the color of that chakra. Recall which physical organs are
associated with that chakra. Remember the emotional issues
surrounding that chakra. Let your whole body fill with the color, energy
and sound of that chakra. When you feel clear in that chakra, take
three deep breaths and move up to the next one. Repeat this until you
have completed the entire seven chakras.
Finally, fill your body with pure white light from the ground and sky, an
integration of all seven chakra colors and energies.

Exercise: Long Distance (Remote) Sending & Receiving
1. With your exercise partner, decide on a time when you will both
work. One will be the sender, one the receiver. WITHOUT being in
communication (online, on the phone, or meeting in person), the
sender should "send" an emotion to the reader. Send one emotion
every 10 minutes. The reader should write down all incoming input:
thoughts, feelings, visions, sounds, etc. After 30 minutes or so,
communicate with each other about what was sent and received.
2. Choose a person with which you have a psychic or emotional
connection. After doing centering and grounding exercises,
concentrate on the person and "send" the request for that person to get
in contact with you. See how long it takes before they call, write or
visit.

Exercise: Asking for Feedback in a Reading
When doing a reading, it is critical to ask for feedback so that you can
know you're getting "correct" information about that person. Many
people think that you, as the reader, should just "know" whether you
are right or not. But how can you recognize the "knowing" of truth
when you are just beginning to do readings?
Ask these questions to obtain feedback:
1. Does this information "feel" right to you (the seeker)?
2. Does this information relate to your questions or to anything
happening in your life?
3. If you see a picture, symbol, or word, ask it: What are you trying to
tell me? What is going on in this "scene" that is important to the
seeker?
4. If you hear words, music or sounds, ask them: What are you trying to
tell me?
5. If the visions/sounds, etc. you are receiving do not make sense to
you, repeat them as clearly as possible to the seeker and ask the
seeker for an interpretation. Often what a "CAT" or "DOG" might
symbolize to you as the reader may have deeper or different
symbolism for the seeker.
6. When describing what you are receiving, focus part of your
awareness on how this vision/sound, etc. makes you feel? Is the
scene a "happy" one? Is the music "depressing"? Are the colors
"peaceful"?
