        _Screaming_in_Digital______________________________Editor's Note_

Greetings again. Although working nights and sleeping
days makes it difficult for me to contact EMI, I still have time
to do the digest, so here it is. Since we're getting near the
start of the school year, I guess I should encourage everyone to
look for new Queensryche fans on campus.

        New Album Mikel <mikelbiko@aol.com>
A friend of mine here in Seattle who is a jet ski
enthusiast runs into Eddie Jackson at competitions on a regular
basis had a conversation with him at one last week. Eddie told
him the new album would be out in September.

        CD-ROM Jason <cavalier@shadow.net>
How much information _is_ there on the CD-ROM? Are they
only going to do a DOS CD? I'm Hoping not.
{So far all we know is that there's one in the
works, it'll contain biographical information and
multimedia stuff, and it'll be out the same time
                        as the album.  -sh}

        Queensryche Shows? Adam <bentley@peruvian.cs.utah.edu>
My girlfriend and I want to see a show. Is the band on
tour? If so, where could I get the concert listing? Or, does
anybody know of any shows in August?
{There's not a Queensryche tour currently, but in
a few months - after the new album comes out - a
                        world tour is expected.  -sh}

        Queensryche Karaoke Amit <rele@wiliki.eng.hawaii.edu>
Last week, I went out to Karaoke. As soon as I got
there, I decided to look up Queensryche, but what do I find? No,
not 'Silent Lucidity,' but 'Real World.' So after a few drinks
to get the voice warmed up =) I tried it. I didn't fully realize
until I tried to match it.
Have any of you found any other Queensryche songs? It
really surprised me to find it because I've never seen anything
else even remotely metallic - no Metallica, Van Halen, Ozzy,
et cetera - and no, Bon Jovi doesn't count as metal.

        _The_Whisper__________________________________________Discussion_

        How Mary Died Marietta <allenmm@emh.yokota.af.mil>
I had assumed that the chalk outline on the wall was one
Mary had drawn herself, in a psychotic trance-rant, as those who
are drugged sometimes do. Of course, this assumes that when she
tells Nikki to shoot, she is telling him to fill her veins, too.
I realized after mailing that last post, that WIlliam
couldn't have done it - it had to be X. Oh well, this is one of
those dilemma things that is fun to agonize over, for how many
years now? Anyway, I wasn't trying to be difficult, I just
        interpreted it a little differently.

        How Mary Died Michael <mcph@sparc.ncpa.olemiss.edu>
It seems very clear to me that Mary did in fact commit
suicide. Father William couldn't have killed her, because he was
sort of dead at the time. Didn't "Video Mindcrime" explicitly
say that she killed herself (in the bonus video)? In any case,
read the notes in the "Livecrime" script. It makes the reason
for suicide very clear. Mary had been used by men all of her
life. She loved Nikki, but as they were having sex all that use
and abuse came back to her. She felt betrayed by the only man
she loved. She couldn't take it anymore.
As for the chalk outline on the wall bit, that is a
reference to Nikki's "chronicle of pain." There has always been
the enigmatic line "The walls will tell the story of my pain."
"Livecrime" indicates that Nikki kept some sort of diary at the
mission they lived in by scribbling doodles on the walls of his
room. Well, that's my two cents worth. :)

        How Mary Died Joe <gxl108@psuvm.psu.edu>
I can't believe that I'm actually chiming in on this
never-ending thread, but I just couldn't hold back any longer.
I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't believe that Mary hung
herself. I think that Father William had Nikki do it, that Nikki
doesn't remember strangling Mary with her rosary because he was
messed up at the time, and that Mary's murder is what gets Nikki
caught by the authorities. Nikki isn't just upset, but
overwrought with guilt at having offed the only person he could
        love.

        How Mary Died Julie <dowdyjm@ucunix.san.uc.edu>
Father William could not have strangled her with the
rosary. He was already _dead_! In 'Suite Sister Mary,' Geoff
sings, "The priest is cold and dead," when Nikki went in to kill
her too. I personally refuse to think that she hung herself. I
mean, that rosary would have had to been made out of steel or
something to hold her. I think while Nikki was freaking out
during 'The Needle Lies' that Dr. X went back to kill her. He
_knew_ Nikki would go back to her and all he had to do was call
the police and politely suggest they go to the church. He did it
to seal Nikki's fate because Nikki had just gone to him and said
he wasn't going to do Dr. X's bidding any more.
As for the word "suicide" that flashes in the second
version of the video after the credits, that is not a huge
surprise. Sister Mary _was_ going to kill herself before Nikki
came in to see her. That's not a surprise.
I just giggle every time someone says that she hung
herself. The lyric fits for both strangulation and hanging -
"Your rosary wrapped around your throat." If she was strangled,
wouldn't it be there? Just my thoughts. Why doesn't someone
call their local police station and ask them what they do with
        hanging bodies?

        How Mary Died Jon <jmosher@linden.msvu.ca>
If I recall properly, Nikki goes to Mary and tells her
how Father William died. As you will see by reading the lyrics
of 'Suite Sister Mary,' unless Father William rose from the dead,
he could not have killed Mary. It is my belief that the butler
did it - just joking! It is implied that she took her own life,
if you read the booklet from "Operation: Livecrime."

        How Mary Died Brian <bps106@psuvm.psu.edu>
The clue that Mary was hung was the verse from 'My Empty
Room' that Shag quoted. The clue to Mary taking her own life is
in the libretto that came with "Operation: Livecrime." A
transitional piece of text between 'Suite Sister Mary' and 'The
Needle Lies' talks about how she has a vision of Father William
over her while she and Nikki are making love (on the altar
presumably) and goes cold in Nikki's arms. Then it says "She
hated him. She hated men. She hated life."
This sums it up for me. But not every one has seen the
libretto, nor have I seen a single Queensryche video on MTV, so I
can't comment on Marietta's remarks on the videos.
I would more like to thank the readers who have responded
to my original post. Your comments have helped me solidify some
of my own ideas and have sparked new ones. If anyone else has
any comments or ideas they would like to contribute for my
script, please e-mail me. I'd rather get a flood of repetitive
messages and catch the rare diamond than get nothing.

                                -Shag
