        _Screaming_in_Digital______________________________Editor's Note_

Greetings, all - the countdown has officially begun! I'm
going to leave it at that and let those who heard the news first
explain below. This is, of course, the last issue for June. For
those who don't know already, SiD doesn't take holidays, so next
week's will be out on July 4th, that being Monday, as usual.

        New Album Don <ai699@yfn.ysu.edu>
I read in the latest Foundations magazine that the
working title of the new album is "The Promised Land." Usually
95% of the time, they are right. Since I work for a music store,
I had a chance to talk to the representative from Capitol (CEMA)
and they had no definite release date for the new one. When
"Empire" came out, I had it in my hands 1 and a half months
before street date. If that happens again, I will be sure to let
        you know.

        Release Date Kevin <ryche@delphi.com>
The Foundation Forum announced the title and release date
for Queensryche's latest. The disc will be called "The Promised
Land" with a release date of August 20th, 1994. Also announced
is the first date of their headlining tour, beginning September
5th in Los Angeles at the Foundation Forum.
{If it's released the 20th, it will actually be
in stores on the 23rd, due to the Tuesday release
                        laws here, right?  -sh}

Doctor Davis on 20/20 Kimberly <operator@commsales.east.sun.com>
I spotted another Dr. Davis/Dr. Blair announcement.
Sunday night on 20/20, they were speaking about women who own
guns. The scene was a rather serious one, showing a woman
doctor who had been attacked in the past. I found it rather
hard to take it seriously when I heard the announcement in the
        background.

        CD-ROMs Terry <lab_helmts@vesper.emcmt.edu>
I watched a MTV news segment about rock stars doing
computer CD-ROMs. Currently Peter Gabriel, Billy Idol, and
Prince have them out. They mentioned that Heart has one out
containing bios and other band info. After hearing this, I was
wondering if this is similar to what Queensryche is also
putting out with their new one? Also I would like info on where
to get the CD-ROM from Heart.
                        {From what we've heard, Queensryche's will be
                        similar to that.  Try a big music store.  -sh}

        Rage Bootleg! Paul <pcrossma@avid.com>
I was in a local record shop, and pow! a Queensryche boot
with all kinds of stuff from "Rage for Order." What's the date?
        1986. Yes, a Rage bootleg!
The title is "Queensryche: Queen of Rage," and the
running time is 64:21. The listed tracks are 'Intro/Neue Regel,'
'Surgical Strike,' 'Warning,' 'The Whisper,' 'London,' 'Chemical
Youth,' 'Walk in the Shadows,' 'Queen of the Reich,'
'Nightrider,' 'Deliverance,' 'The Whisper,' 'Gonna Get Close to
You,' and 'Take Hold of the Flame.' The first 8 were recorded in
1986 in Japan, and the last 5 were recorded September 26, 1986 in
Toronto. As an extra added plus, right before 'Queen of the
Reich,' they play 'Rage for Order.'
There seems to be no label of any kind on the disk or the
packaging. This is an audience recording, and I'd say that it's
a little bit better than "Ryche and Roll" for sound quality. I'm
open for trades on this one, and I also have 4 other Ryche CD's
that might interest people. If you are interested in trading,
I'm very hot for Night Ranger, Extreme, Rush, and some others.

        Tribute Bands Stephen <sgorny1@umbc2.umbc.edu>
I have to disagree with the comments made in the last
issue and side with Geoff on this one. I think tribute bands, to
quote Beavis & Butthead (for the only time in my life) "suck,"
and have no creative talents whatsoever. Now, I have nothing
against bands playing cover tunes in the clubs and bars; many of
these bands are working on original material.
However, so-called "tribute bands" are something
completely different. They are musicians (and I use that word
loosely) who do not have one iota of creativity or, in my
opinion, talent - how much talent does it take to play just like
someone else? Any schmuck can learn to play anything. But to
create an original piece of music - now there's someone with real
        talent.
{Of course, the average "schmuck" can't learn to
play Queensryche, at least not well! Anyway,
this is heading away from being topical, so if
anyone wants to argue whether tribute bands suck,
                        please take it to e-mail.  Thanks!  -sh}
