        _Screaming_in_Digital______________________________Editor's Note_

Greetings once again, and welcome to May! Plenty of new
things to mention. First, I've put the latest batch of pictures
and sounds up for download on the Glia FTP site. Some of them
are from Nick's WWW page, some of the sounds are from someone in
England who I owe an apology for taking so long. Speaking of
Nick's WWW page, it's one of the new things covered in the latest
revision of the FAQ, which is also up on Glia.
This issue, for its part, contains some of the newest
facts and rumors about the new album and related things.
Important note: If you're leaving school for the summer
or whatever and your e-mail address will be going away, please
let me know ahead of time so I can take you off the subscriber
        list. Thanks!

Interview & New Album Gerhard <gerhard@jason.nl>
The latest issue of the Dutch metal magazine Aardschok
features an interview with the band. Some highlights:
The band is almost finished recording, and will soon
start the mixing. The album will be "a step back in the
shadows," meaning more gloomy, though not grungy. The album will
be a lot "darker" than "Empire." The band thinks the album
should hit the shops this autumn.
The interview was conducted via telephone; officially the
place where the band is recording is a secret, neither the fan
club, nor EMI nor the management were able or willing to tell
where they were recording. However, a few hints were given in
the interview. They are far away from friends and relatives.
The phone lines to the place are unreliable, they lost connection
during the interview. There are otters and stuff like that
        around.

New Album & Tour Scott <syaeger@rs6000.cmp.ilstu.edu>
This was posted in the alt.music.dream-theater newsgroup
        by ghost@oz.plymouth.edu:
Dream Theater has announced a new album this summer, to
be released the same day as Queensryche's new album. Also,
supposedly, Queensryche has chosen Dream Theater to open on their
        world tour this summer/fall.

        Fanclub E-mail? Don <blitzer@wybbs.mi.org>
I was wondering if anyone out there knew if the
Queensryche Fanclub had an internet address.

        Obscure Things? Loula <lburton@beta.centenary.edu>
I want know a little about the guys themselves - little
obscure things that I wouldn't have discovered in the cheesy
metal magazines. Michael Wilton absolutely fascinates me (lovely
lovely lovely) and I'm trying to set Eddie up with a friend of
mine. =) Please help me know my favorite band personally.

        Silent Lucidity Ending Jim <jimd@sscl.uwo.ca>
Recently I was listening to 'Silent Lucidity' and noticed
that the at the very end of the song the orchestrated part plays
a bit of the "Lullaby" song sung to little children. How
appropriate for an ending! Has anyone else noticed this?

Rage for Order Demos? John <jlb@tpg.tpg.oz.au>
I just got a tape of some "Rage for Order" demos, and I
was wondering how common they are. The tracks are 'Walk in the
Shadows,' 'Chemical Youth,' 'The Dream,' 'Screaming in Digital,'
'Surgical Strike,' 'I Will Remember,' 'The Whisper,' 'From the
Darkness,' 'Rage for Order' (some "Mindcrime" riffs), and 'Ballad
in Bm' ('I Dream in Infrared'). All the album tracks are
noticably different on the demo, and the other tracks are good
too. If anyone is interested in a trade, email me!

        How Mary Died Dave <dgood@pomona.claremont.edu>
In the first letter I ever wrote to the guys, before
"Video: Mindcrime" came out, I asked if Mary committed suicide or
whether Dr. X got her. When my letter was replied to with all
the introductory band stuff, the page of my letter with that
question on it was also returned, with "suicide" circled. That
is a pretty satisfactory answer for me, unless Sushi was trying
        to yank my chain.

        How Mary Died Todd <twl102@psuvm.psu.edu>
I have always believed that she was murdered by Dr. X. I
think I am right because, as someone mentioned earlier, the
"Video: Mindcrime" tape has "murder" flash on a TV screen during
the video after the credits. I believe the little book that
comes with the video says something like "this will answer some
of your questions... or raise new ones." Something to that
effect. So, do you think that this means she was murdered, or
they (Queensryche) want us think she was? We all know that an
outline is put around a dead body, right? Well, a friend of mine
told me that when someone is hung, since they can't put the
outline on the floor, they put it on the wall ("chalk outline
upon the wall..."). That is why I think that she was hung, by
her rosary, by Dr. X. What do you think?

        Who Killed Mary Timothy <tfreeman@cwis.unomaha.edu>
I watched my copy of "Video: Mindcrime" over the weekend,
looking for the answer to everyone's question as to who killed
Mary. I know this is a _major, major spoiler,_ but I think I've
figured it out. And the answer is - I'm still not sure who
        killed her.
The thing is, there's a second video for 'I Don't Believe
in Love' at the end of "Video: Mindcrime," and it focuses almost
entirely on Mary. She's shown with a knife in her hands, kneeling
at the altar, but _both_ Father William and Dr. X come through
the door behind her (at different times), carrying rosaries as if
they're going to strangle Mary. Also, there's a strange scene
where Mary is kneeling at the altar, and she's kissing Nikki, but
the camera tracks over to focus on Mary, and then when it moves
back to the left again, she's kissing not Nikki but Father
William. This leads me to think that Nikki _might_ have actually
killed her (after all, Dr. X might have put a subliminal command
into Nikki's mind that would force him to kill Mary).
Still, with the confusion as to who actually came through
the door (and more importantly, who really killed Mary), I don't
think there's a definite answer to be found. The only thing I do
know for sure is that Mary _was_ strangled with a rosary,
explaining the "...rosary wrapped around your throat" line from
'Eyes of a Stranger.' For what it's worth, though, I personally
think that Dr. X killed Mary, but somehow put Nikki's
fingerprints on the rosary to make it look as if Nikki was
guilty. Only Geoff knows for sure.

        Geoff Tate, Superstar Steve <steveh@wpi.edu>
I have no knowledge of Geoff possibly portraying Jesus in
a revival of "Jesus Christ Superstar" any time soon (his voice is
more suited to be Judas, anyway IMHO) but Gary Cherone (Extreme's
lead singer) was Jesus in a revival of the play last month in
Boston. The revival was only for 5 or 6 area shows total.

        Another Rainy Video Stephen <sgorny1@umbc2.umbc.edu>
Personally, I wish this video had been released to
eMptyTV instead. I found it to be rather creative - especially
considering that a number of "Empire" videos ('Silent Lucidity,'
'Empire,' 'Another Rainy Night') looked alot alike, like they
were all made up from one set of footage all shot at the same
        time.

I'd like to know if the spoken line "How's that then?
Better?" in 'Silent Lucidity' comes from one of the Hellraiser
movies. I believe I heard that line in Hellraiser II or III.
Can someone put me out of my misery and tell me I'm not dreaming?
{You're not dreaming - I'm not sure which of the
Hellraiser movies the line is from but all past
reports have indicated that it's definitely from
                        one of them.  -sh}
