Greetings, and welcome to what's probably the most
advertising-laden issue this digest has ever seen. But don't
despair, there are other things being covered too. Oh, and for
all you statistics majors, readership has passed the 1300 mark.
Happy Easter and Passover to those who are celebrating them.

        New Album Skirdman <skirdman@aol.com>
I have a theory on the new CD. Local radio usually
starts playing old stuff from bands that are about to have a new
release. I have been hearing a _ton_ of Queensryche on the air
waves lately, some of it as far back as the EP! One can only
        hope!

Mrs. Tate and Eddie Jai <jaipiper@aol.com>
I hope someone can help me out. I've tried several other
avenues of verifying these two questions with no success:
                1. Is Geoff's mom a children's book illustrator and if
        so, what has she done?
                2. I heard that Eddie Jackson is a very funny mimic and
had done some beer commercials run in Canada, has anyone heard
        anything on these?
                        {I haven't heard anything about Eddie's mimicry,
but Geoff's mom is involved in children's books.
                        I don't know the details, though.  -sh}

        Empire Speculation George <gabed@u.washington.edu>
I was driving through Seattle late at night and passed
Martin Luther King Jr. Way, a street here in Seattle. It
occurred to me that this street used to be called Empire Way.
Since this street has a high level of drug/gang activity in
certain areas I thought that this might have been the source or
at least an influence for the title to the song 'Empire.' Since
this is total speculation I might be way off base, but can anyone
        confirm or deny this?

        Neue Regel Meaning? Mike <mb1@vaxa.clarion.edu>
I'm new on this list and I have looked through the FAQ
and could not find an answer to a question I've been wondering
since I got "Rage for Order" - what does 'Neue Regel' mean? I
could not figure this out from the lyrics either and it's
driving me insane. Could someone please help me?
{It's German, loosely translating to "New Rule"
or "New Regime" or "New Order." I really should
                        add that to the FAQ.  -sh}

        Eyes Chords Jim <jimd@sscl.uwo.ca>
Thanks to all those who responded to my quest for the
'Eyes' chords, especially Graeme who was able to get me the tabs
        right on campus!

        Samples Skirdman <skirdman@aol.com>
I'm not sure about who Queensryche has sampled from but
I can tell you that all this winter Ford Truck was using the
opening rif from 'Deliverance' ("The Warning") for their TV spots
here in Omaha. Shocked the hell out of me, hearing Queensryche
        on prime time TV.

        Bootlegs Alfredo <alfredo.cappello@galactica.it>
I can give you some information about Queensryche video
bootlegs. In the list of my traders I've found this stuff:
                Rochester NY 1991 121' (Priv.Recording)
                Koln Germany 1988 50' (Pro)
                Rio Brasil 1/23/91 30' (Pro)
                Operation Mindcrime (Unedited Version) 94'
                Osaka Japan 2/1/91 120' (Priv.)
Tokyo Japan 1985 50' (I think is PRO)
Day on the Green 91 5' (MTV, one song)
Live & Int. Buffalo NY 1991 45' (EMI Tape)
                Ichtegum Belgium 90 40' (Priv.)
                Amsterdam Holland 90 125' (Priv.)
                Copenaghen Denmark 91 50' (Priv.)
I also know that someone here in Italy videotaped the Milan
show (last show of the European tour), they also have done a
        2-CD bootleg, "Ryche & Roll."

        Who Killed Mary? Elizabeth <e.a.harris@politics.hull.ac.uk>
I hate to throw this one at you, me being a comparatively
new Rycher, but on the "libretto" that goes with the video, it
does actually say, "After Nikki leaves, Mary is plagued by the
vision of Nikki turning into Father William... Once, she thought
Nikki was her hope. But now he seemed like all the rest. She
hated him. She hated men. She hated life." - which does tend to
suggest she "tops" herself. It does say "Nikki finds her dead,"
though, which is a little confusing. Also, in 'Suite Sister
Mary' itself, she does come over very suicidal, I think. After
all, she does basically ask him to shoot her.

How Did Mary Die? Jeff <jwala@vax2.winona.msus.edu>
Okay, for anyone keeping score, it seems a consensus
that Mary committed suicide, but this doesn't resolve everything
about the story. What was the means of her death? In the
'secret' video she's at the altar with a knife, but is
interrupted by Father William, Dr. X, and Nikki. I see this as
actually being Nikki, with the Father and Dr. symbolically
representing sex (perverted religion) and politics that motivate
and manipulate Nikki's actions. This whole video is full of
images showing how sex and politics 'killed' Mary long before
the actual act was commited. So, avoiding all this confusing
imagery, I take my answer from this line in 'Eyes of a Stranger,'
"..dreams return to haunt me, Your rosary _wrapped_ around your
throat." How did she strangle herself? In fact, the whole song
implies that Nikki has an entirely different 'person' running
around his head, the one Dr. X programmed to be the killer.
This leads me to my pet theory of how Mary killed herself. At
the end of 'Suite Sister Mary,' in a fit of disgust and
depression, she invokes his codeword and has him kill her. This
idea was all fine and dandy until I saw in the "Livecrime"
booklet, "After Nikki leaves, Mary is plaqued by the vision..."
OK, so obviously in the years between "Mindcrime" and
"Livecrime," someone forgot the _real_ story. :-)
Who is credited with the lyrics and with the booklet,
anyway? BTW, I'm not trying to over-analyze and resolve
everything about the album, I just feel there's a lot more to
discuss about this than just "who killed Mary?". Anyone else
have a similar obsession, and some thoughts on the matter?

How Didn't Mary Die? Elizabeth <bizbif@delphi.com>
Thanks to Kevin for reminding me of who or what actually
killed mary. I saw Queensryche twice on their last tour, but I'd
forgotten that both times Geoff asked the audience who killed
Mary. At one of the shows, the answer was "electronic vibrating
appliances," and at the other, the answer was "weasels." So,
take your pick. Anyone remember what was said at other shows?
{Actually, the full answer for the second one was
that her flesh was ripped by weasels - a tribute
to Frank Zappa? The SiD archives list "smothered
                        in Crisco" as another option.  -sh}

        Mindcrime Intro Markus <tdi9001@abacus.hgs.se>
I am wondering about the stuff that they say in the
beginning at the "Operation: Mindcrime" album - does that come
        from a movie?
I was watching a movie - don't know the name of it,
unfortunately :-( - on TV, and there was a scene from a hospital,
and I could hear the speakers saying the stuff that are said in
the beginning at the "Operation: Mindcrime" album. Does that
come from a movie, or did I just think I heard it?
                        {The public-address system - "Doctor Davis..."
is from a standard sound-effects collection that
is very widely used in Hollywood. The parts
                        spoken by the nurse are original.  -sh}

I am a serious Queensryche collector, and have been all
over Europe and the U.S. gathering material. I will sell taped
copies of the originals to any interested persons.
I have all the U.K. singles from "Empire." These include
four 'Silent Lucidity' singles - two came in a double digi-pak,
the 'Empire' single, the 'Another Rainy Night' single, the 'Best
I Can' single with the unplugged version of 'I Dream In
Infrared,' and two 'Jet City Woman' singles - one is from Holland
        and is very rare.
The single for 'Anybody Listening' was U.S. and has
'Scarborough Fair' on the B-side. Copies of it are $2. All U.K.
        singles are $5 a copy.
I also have the promo CD "The Sound of Building Empires."
Copies are $5. I have two Unplugged CDs. One is called
"Unplugged and Other Rarities." It has the five unplugged songs,
plus a orchestrated version of 'Silent Lucidity,' two versions of
the song 'Stars' that Geoff sang on with other artists for the
"Hear 'N Aid benefit," the demo of 'Prophecy,' and a medley of
"Mindcrime" songs called 'Overseeing the Operation,' which was
previously available only on 10" vinyl from U.K. Copies of this
        CD are $10.
The other is called "Unplugged and other Stories." It
has the full unplugged session (all five songs), and some live
songs from New York in 1983 and a couple live from Tokyo in 1985
from the Warning tour. Copies of this are $10.
I also have many other live CDs. "Nightryders" (Tokyo
1985); "Whispering Shadows" (Seattle, New Year's Eve, 1988,
features 1981 demos of 'Scarborough Fair' and 'Raising Fear'
        (never before released) and a 1983 demo of 'Prophecy');
"Queensryche Monsters of Rock" (Donington, England, 1991); "Live
from Nassau Coliseum" (July 1991); "Disease is Rampant" (New
York, 1989, featuring songs rarely played live); "Anarchy X"
(Amsterdam, 1990). Copies of these are $10 each.
I have "Return of the Empire" and "Empire Strikes Back,"
two LPs live from Ludwigsburg, Germany on the early Empire tour.
        Copies of this are $20.
Lastly, I have "Ryche 'N Roll" (live in Milan, Italy,
        1990, 2 CDs). Copies are $20.
I also have three interviews. One is "Speaking in
Digital" from the "Rage" album. One is "Speak the Word" from the
"Mindcrime" tour on the road in Europe. The last one is a
Japanese picture disc interview (in English) from the "Empire"
tour. Copies of these are $10 each. They are all promos and
        _very_ rare.
These are the only things I can copy. I have many other
items, like promos of songs and things, but no one wants just a
song they can hear on the album, except me. Anyway, if anyone is
interested E-mail me and I can give you further details.

I have seen a _lot_ of requests for the MTV unplugged
        concert - I have a bootleg CD, "Unplugged & Other Stories." It's
the _full_ MTV Unplugged special and little pieces from a show in
New York and a few tracks from the "Live In Tokyo" video - both
from the Warning tour. Since I am not out to make money at the
Ryche's expense, I will make copies of this concert in exchange
for other bootlegs from Queensryche. If you have no bootlegs or
unreleased material to trade, I will work something out with you.
        E-mail me for more info!
I have another bootleg of the whole "Empire" tour called
        "Ryche-N-Roll" - this is a double CD - as well as "Anarchy X," a
bootleg of just the "Mindcrime" release with 'Silent Lucidity' at
        the end.

the last issue and was wondering if anyone knew where I could
find a copy of this. I would prefer a store in the St. Louis
area, if possible, but am open to any suggestions that may come
        this way.

looking for offers in the $5 range so that I can afford postage.
E-mail me to work out a deal.
