Greetings once again, and welcome to Spring! I know this
is going out a day early, I'm doing it deliberately as I plan to
be away from my computer on Sunday night. I don't have a whole
lot to say right now, but can someone who knows send the
_correct_ spelling of Donington / Donnington to the editorial
address above? One N or two?

        New Album Mikel <mikelbiko@aol.com>
One of the guys I work with here in Seattle went to
school with some of the guys in the band, and attended high
school at Interlake in Bellevue with them. The other day, he
showed me a great picture of Scott Rockenfield from their Little
League baseball team that really cracked me up - Scott looked
        exactly like he does today!
Anyway, he was at a friends house last night and Scott
was there watching tv. My friend asked him about the new album,
and Scott said it is 3/4 done, and should be completed in the
next 6 weeks with release pending 2-3 months afterwards; that
would be around July or August, but marketing efforts need to be
ramped up, etc., so it could be pushed out further of course.

        New Album? Don <blitzer@wybbs.mi.org>
Has anyone heard anything off the new Queensryche album?
        If so, how is it?

        Fan Club Yen-Wei <ywliu@beta.wsl.sinica.edu.tw>
I have been a member of the Queensryche Fan Club for
several years - since "Rage for Order." But before the release
of "Empire," I seemed to be ousted - that is, no more
newsletters, no anything, I was disconnected from the Club. I
thought I was a life-time member, but maybe something was wrong.
On the other hand, I've talked about this with my pen
pal, who lives in the states and also is a member of the
Queensryche Fan Club. She has been one since "The Warning" and
still receives newsletters. She couldn't figure out why either.
Maybe the only difference is I live in Taiwan, outside
the States; I am apt to be forgotten.
{You should probably write to the Fan Club and
let them know that you are not receiving things
                        as you should.  They will try to fix it.  -sh}

        Geoff and Opera? Michael <csc3mad@cabell.vcu.edu>
Is it really true that Jeff used to sing opera?
{No, but he comes from a musical family, and one
                        of his aunts is, or was, an opera singer.  -sh}

        Alone in Utah? Christopher <ozzie.newson@m.cc.utah.edu>
Greetings to all of you Queensryche fans out there!
I've been a dedicated fan of the band since "Empire" came out.
This was the first band that entranced me so much I researched
their history, have tracked down all their albums and generally
revered them ever since. The point of all this is that I am from
Utah and _utterly alone_ here as a Queensryche fan. I've
introduced countless people to their music but nobody is as
fanatical as I am. So many thanks to Shag and all of you for
assuring that I am not alone in the world - just my little corner
of it! If there are indeed any people from Utah subscribing to
SiD, _please_ e-mail me so I may not be alone any longer! :)
                        {There are 4 others at your own school!  -sh}

        Donnington Neil <neilu@gti-ia.nl>
In response to Willy's post about Donnington, I've seen
some snippets of AC/DC live on MTV which look like they are taken
at Donnington. They were filming footage for their live video at
that time. Remember the low flying helicopters with cameras
strapped to the side of the them? Now it just so happens that
MTV have a festival season every year where they cover most of
the major summer events around Europe. It's likely that some
material was shot for this too.
The thing that disappointed me the most that year was the
missing firework show at the end. I suppose AC/DC thought their
21 gun salute was good enough. Instead they threw out these fake
dollar bills which I thought was pretty crap. I also found
Geoff's dress sense left a lot to be desired - denim jacket,
"moshing" Bermuda shorts and a head scarf! Oh, and Whitesnake
appeared at Donnington 1990. Queensryche appeared in August 1991.

        Donnington Darren <darren.wilkes@bj.co.uk>
I remember going to see Queensryche at Donington, too
(and very good indeed they were!) - but I distinctly remember it
being 1991 at the time. It was the same year that AC/DC
headlined, and Metallica were the "special guests." I have to
admit that Metallica were the best band on that day (but
        Queensryche came a close second) - and I wouldn't call myself a
        huge Metallica fan.
I believe it was Whitesnake who headlined in 1990 (and I
didn't go that year!), but perhaps our fellow Queensryche fan
arrived in 1990 and got so drunk that he forgot to leave until
        the following year.
As an aside, a lot of people who saw Queensryche at
Donington were put off by the fact that the band seemed to do a
lot of posing. I'm personally convinced that they were "taking
the piss", but some people I know didn't appreciate the joke.
They were a lot better when I saw them perform the entire
"Operation: Mindcrime" set at the Apollo in Manchester - that was
the first time I saw them live.

        Donnington Chris <cmr@cck.coventry.ac.uk>
I was there also, MTV did film the event and bits of it
were shown in a special Monsters of Rock weekend, that was shown
sometime in September. I managed to tape some of it, as far as
Queensryche goes, they interviewed Geoff plus the whole band
together, as well as showed live clips of 'Eyes of a Stranger'
and 'I Don't Believe in Love' although they were not complete
songs. This is a bit annoying since they showed Metallica's
'Enter Sandman' about three times! Unfortunately, my tape is at
my parents' house, so I can't elaborate further.

        Building Empires CD Kurt <thecompany@aol.com>
Does anyone have a track listing for the promotional CD
"The Sound Of Building Empires?" Is there anything unreleased on
there (like the Unplugged and live Stuff) or is it just the CD
        versions?
{'Eyes of a Stranger,' 'The Lady Wore Black,' and
'Take Hold of the Flame' (album versions); the
unplugged 'I Will Remember,' and a live version
                        of 'Silent Lucidity.'  -sh}

        Eyes Chords Eddie <edju@chaph.usc.edu>
The basic chord progression goes like this: F#maddB, E,
F#maddB, E. The two guitars play in unison but after Geoff sings
"what we know" Michael and Chris start playing some variations.
They still play these two chords together, but sometimes one
guitar throws in some extra chords or notes, maybe that's what
was driving you crazy. :) 'Eyes of a Stranger' was transcribed
in an issue of Guitar for the Practicing Musician back in 1990, I
believe, check it out. Or get the "Operation: Mindcrime" tab
book. I picked up a copy at the local Tower, man was it
expensive - $24.95 for only 9 songs! They didn't transcribe
        'Suite Sister Mary,' what blasphemy!

        Tablature Error? Neil <ngoodman@mlsma.mlm.att.com>
I recently bought the "Operation: Mindcrime" guitar
tablature book but noticed a mistake in the bridge from the
verse to the chorus of the 'Operation: Mindcrime' song. After
Geoff sings "take my number," the guitar is supposed to play:
                E|-1-----
                B|---4-3-
But this doesn't sound right. I think it should be more like:
                E|-2-----
                B|---5-4-
What does everybody else think? Apart from this, the book is
very accurate and I would recommend it to everybody. If you
don't play guitar, then pick up this book and start now!

        Cool Stuff Mike <mikeb@cs.brandeis.edu>
I can't believe this. I just bought the 'Anybody
Listening?' CD single with 'Scarborough Fair' used (in perfect
condition) for $1.99 as well as the Queensryche EP for under $5.
I also got a cool bootleg called "Whispering Shadows" with New
Years '89 Seattle concert, 2 demo songs ('Scarborough Fair' and
'Raising Fear') from '81, and the 'Prophecy' '83 demo. Pretty
cool and a good sounding CD.

        Who Killed Mary? Shane <esbrown@miavx3.mid.muohio.edu>
When I met Geoff Tate on June 4, 1991 during the Building
Empires Tour, a fan asked Geoff, "Who killed Mary?" He simply
smiled shyly and said, "You don't know? Watch the video." All
that were within our crowd of friends stood amazed and said we
had watched "Video: Mindcrime" tons and _never_ could figure it
out. He laughed and said, "Watch the _hidden_ video at the end
of it after the credits, and then you shall have your answer."

        Who Killed Mary? Kevin <kholcom@v44e1.orl.mmc.com>
Geoff himself at the concert in Miami - and I am sure at
all the others as well - asked the audience if they knew who had
killed Mary. In Miami, he looked down towards the front and
pointed someone out who said "Herself," repeated that and told
them that they were correct. Just thought I would throw that in.

        Hellraiser II Samples Neil <ngoodman@mlsma.mlm.att.com>
I was watching Hellraiser II yesterday and I too noticed
the sample from 'Silent Lucidity.' The exact words were "How're
we feeling today? Better?" Later in the film, one of the
actresses whispers "Help me," the exact voice from the song. Has
anybody noticed any other samples from the song in this film?
Did Queensryche only use samples from this film in the song?
