        _Screaming in Digital______________________________Editor's Note_

Welcome back! To the US fans - Happy Flag Day. To Chris
DeGarmo and Scott Rockenfield, happy 30th birthday! Have some
        cake and ice cream, everybody.
I've updated the FAQ (/pub/queensryche/FAQ on the FTP
site at glia.biostr.washington.edu) to reflect the current state
of things regarding Queensryche. If anyone's requested it from
me through mail and has not received it, please contact me at
queensryche-owner@pilot.njin.net and I'll send you the latest
version. Of course, if you can use FTP, that's the best way.
For those who've been keeping track of these things, I
picked up the t-shirts Wednesday, and mailed all that had been
paid for on Thursday and Friday. Shirts will be shipped to 15
other people when payment is received - if you think you might
be one of them but aren't sure, mail me! Any checks or money
orders should be made out to Dan Birchall. As I mentioned last
week, if you didn't order one, it's too late now for this time
around, but if there's enough interest I might get some more made
        in the fall semester.
Odd request: Any readers in the Houston area, e-mail me.

        READERS POLL dwb4025@rigel.tamu.edu (Dave)
Scott Rockenfield got 5th place in the hard rock
category of a readers poll in Modern Drummer magazine, I believe.
There was a small photo of him in the magazine for it.

        READERS POLL birchall@pilot.njin.net (Editor)
Pulse! magazine's readers poll of the best 100 album
length releases of the last 10 years listed "Rage For Order" at
number 60. No other Queensryche albums were listed in the top
        100. Perhaps all the fans who consider "Rage" the best album
        came out of the woodwork.

        REAL WORLD dwb4025@rigel.tamu.edu (Dave)
'Real World' came in at #10 on the Z.Rock 50 this past
Sunday night (the 6th). I talked to a DJ at the local radio
station here, and he said that they were receiving the singles
from the new soundtrack one at a time rather than the whole
soundtrack at once. So there is a separate Queensryche single,
at least for promo at radio stations. So, there should be some
out in the market for collectors to track down.

        REAL WORLD ryche@delphi.com (Kevin)
I must put in my two cents as well about their latest
release, 'Real World.' For all of you out there I am pretty
disgusted! I believe the song is great!
If I can remember correctly the band did mention that
they will be exploring a new direction with their upcoming album
And if this is the way they want to go, I'm all for it. You
rarely see any band that has such a diverse music talent for
doing both heavy metal and slow contemporary (ballads if you
will) music. The song may not be the best they've written, but
then again how many songs have they written that are that slow?
('Silent Lucidity' and 'I Will Remember') I think they've done
        a great job.
And for all of you that do not like the song, thanks for
giving the band a little credit for showing off their talent.

        REAL WORLD jrh@sunset.cse.nau.edu (James)
I finally got the "Last Action Hero" soundtrack last
night. The other music isn't too bad. Finally something
        different from Def Leppard.

        REAL WORLD birchall@pilot.njin.net (Editor)
One thing that hasn't been mentioned so far about
'Real World' is that it was written by Queensryche _and_ Michael
Kamen. In the case of 'Silent Lucidity' the song itself was
written by Chris, and Kamen was called in for orchestration, but
in this case, he was apparently involved throughout the entire
songwriting process. I'm glad his style and Queensryche's style
are so compatible! It might also be worth noting that his being
the composer for the movie's music probably had something to do
with Queensryche being asked to contribute a song.

        AMSTERDAM BOOT nresrep@peele.bas.ncsu.edu (Rob)
I have a boot from Amsterdam recorded in Edenhall,
November 29, 1990. It is similar to "Operation: Livecrime", but
it has 'Silent Lucidity' as the final track. The closest I could
find is the "Anarchy X" bootleg mentioned in the FAQ. With no
title on the CD, am I correct in assuming that this is it? Also,
        what might it be worth?

        BUILDING EMPIRES wouter@stack.urc.tue.nl (Wouter)
I was at a local record shop and the owner told me that
he had 2 video's of Queensryche, both "Building Empires," but one
was an European and the other an American version. They looked
different, but the owner could not tell me what was different.
        Can anyone tell me?
{If nothing else, the video standards should be
                        different.  NTSC for USA, PAL for Europe.  -sh}

        RELICS ryche@delphi.com (Kevin)
I too have been digging in my attic to find old relics of
Queensryche memorabilia. I found a red cassette tape that on the
front says 'A Message from X.' When I played it, it was Dr. X
promoting the upcoming release of "Operation: Mindcrime."

        OPERATION EMPIRE nresrep@peele.bas.ncsu.edu (Rob)
I recently found a copy of the "Operation: Empire" box
set. I was wondering if it was worth the $90 tag on it. The FAQ
said it went for about $110, but I would like to know, is it
worth the price? I do like to collect rare items, but can
anybody tell me if it is worth it, outside of only 1000 being
        printed? Whats the deal?

        REAL WORLD LYRICS birchall@pilot.njin.net (Editor)
The lyrics of 'Real World' - well, the best guess I've
been able to assemble from what people have sent me and my own
observations - are now availble via FTP. The primary site as
usual is glia.biostr.washington.edu (128.95.10.115), the file is
        /pub/queensryche/lyrics/1993/real.world (The directory will be
renamed when the new album comes out). The file will be mirrored
to Dave Datta's music FTP site at cs.uwp.edu, where it will be in
        /pub/music/lists/queensryche/lyrics/1993/real.world.

        OPERATION EMPIRE William.Williams@um.cc.umich.edu (Bill)
If anyone knows of any place that they can find
"Operation: Empire," please send me a message and let me know.
I'm possibly interested in buying it.

        VIDEOS FOR SALE mjgiles@ucdavis.edu (Jason)
I am moving and trying to get rid of some stuff. I want
to keep them, but hey, I can only carry so much. Anyways, in
slimming down my collection, I have decided to sell my
"Operation: Livecrime" box set for $25, which includes shipping
and my other live video (which I hear is out of print) for $30
(including shipping). If you think those are too high, make me
        an offer.
{I'm presuming that the "other live video" is
                        "Live in Tokyo."  -sh}

        _________________________________________________________________

And thus concludes the spring... we got the obligatory
one Queensryche song to tide us over - and keep us foaming at the
mouths - until something more comes along. See you all this
summer (next week, before you panic), and, of course,
                'Ryche on!
                                -Shag
