Subject: Why "The Speed of Love"""

Alright my fellow Rush fans,

I've been trying to figure why so many of you have continually trashed "The
Speed of Love," so during a three-hour drive last week I decided to reintroduce
myself with the CP album and that song in particular. When I first bought CP, I
don't remember SOL having an immediate impact on me, but lets face it, man -
that's a killer song. If I didn't like it before I certainly do now.

Keep in mind that Geddy has said repeatedly that the band's years of exploration
of odd time signature (i.e. 7/8, 5/4, 13/16) have allowed them to settle into
more basic song structures with ease and more importantly with innovation. SOL
has a very common structure with well-defined versus, a chorus and bridges. I
agree, it may not be an ear catcher on first listen, but check out Neil's snare
drum work, Alex's subtle but tasty leads, the heart-wrenching solo, and the
lyrics - well that's been discussed over and over in the NMS about what they
mean. I personally prefer this song to "Between Sun and Moon" and most
definitely over "Cold Fire." My question is, why so much criticism of this one
song?? I mean c'mon, we could have easily picked apart "Different Stings,"
"Tears" or any other more subtle song the boyz have done. Try another listen to
SOL, I think you may have some perspective on it now that CP has some age on it.

Anyway, just my opinion - all their songs are great and keep jamming to them!!!

Later, "Love is born of lightning bolts" - N.P.

Subject: Tough Break

Hey sports fans! I was just reading the Signals tour book, when
something caught my eye. Neil mentions a little ditty the Boys recorded
between the mixing of ESL and the recording of Signals. He calls it Tough
Break.
Does anyone out there in Rushland know anything more about this?
Is it possible that (shudder) this mysterious piece might be commercially
available somewhere?
Maybe they're saving it as a "previously unreleased track" on their
upcoming boxed set.
Yes, I did make that last part up.

Subject: Chicago area fans: Animation alert!

The well-regarded Chicago-area Rush tribute band Animation is playing at Toto's
in Schaumburg again this coming Saturday, July 22. Doors open at 9:00 PM. Come
early for a good seat and plan on staying until 3:00 AM. Animation plays all
periods of Rush music, but places heavy emphasis on early songs, including
things Rush hasn't played in concert for many years. Toto's is easily accessible
from anywhere in the Chicago area, located just a mile from a major expressway,
and about 10 miles West of O'Hare. If you need directions, email me privately.
Wear your NMS shirt if you have one. Hope to see many of you there!

Subject: Fred's ?

Fred, sorry it took me so long to get back to you.

Sorry, folks, I was asked how Ged got his outrageously cool tone on
Hemishperes. i did a little researching and came up with this:

Ged at the time was using Rickenbackers (4001s and a 4002) and a Fender
Precision and A Fender Jazz. He was running through BGW 750-B's, Ashley
preamps, into Thiele and Ampeg cabs.

You would probably be hard pressed to find these preamps/amps, but I think
you could probably get some of that funky tone with some chorus and a
distortion pedal. I made a transistor-based distortion box which sounds
a lot like that _old_ distortion. You'd probably want something similar,
although tubes are the way to go. Later. . . Rich (rr@asu.edu)

I just found this out recently by reading the Rush newsgroup. There is
an organization started in Canada caled ARtists Against Racism that has a
lot of popular mainly Canadian artists involved. Rush is one of the
artists included. There is a WWW site at www.vrx.net/aar, and I wrote to
the person in charge of it and she was thinking that maybe the Rush home
page could be linked to this one so that more people could find out about
it. I don't know who is in charge of the Rush site, so I figured I would
just put in a blurb about it here. So if anyone is interested, this
would be a really neat thing, I think.

Subject: A Recent "Rush Hearing"

Yo Dude y Dudettes!

Dino again. Hey, I had an actual, real-life RUSH "hearing" this past
weekend! It was Saturday night. I had just gotten home from umpiring six hours
of Babe Ruth Baseball. I took a shower, mixed a screwdriver (with Sterling
vodka-- yum yum!!), and slumped down in my rocker-recliner. As it was about
11:00 pm, I wasn't really interested in anything particular on TV, so I just
flipped the channels. I stopped on ESPN (or maybe it was ESPN2-- I don't
really remember-- DAMN, old age is killing me!) and an arena football game was
on. Now, I'm not much of an arena football fan, but I stopped there for a few
minutes. At one point between plays, in the background (coming through the
arena's PA system) I could faintly hear "Today's Tom Sawyer gets high on you,
and the space he invades he gets by on you..." Well... I was thrilled to say
the least. I mentioned it to my wife who was sitting in her chair next to me.
Her general attitude was "So what!" I couldn't let her get by with such an
apathetic attitude, so I decided it was time to send her to bed. I got out the
ASOH video and cranked the sound up through my stereo system. I had a nice
1.5+ hour concert and she became reacquainted with her pillow! That'll teach
her ass to mess with me!!

Later all you RUSH freaks out in cyberspace!

Yo Rush-mongers!

It's Dino again. I just read Jason Swofford's entry in Issue #1114 of
TNMS concerning ratings of various Yes and Rush albums. Although I don't agree
with most of his ratings (which is OK), I take particular exception to his
rating for Hemispheres.

What have you been smoking, dude?? Whatever happened to "Just Say No!"
;-) A 7.25 for Hemispheres? This is one of Rush's greatest albums!! From both
a technical and artistic standpoint, it can hardly be beat by anything from Yes
or most other "classic" bands! Certainly you jest!

If Mr. Swofford or anyone else for that matter would like to get into a
prolonged discussion of the merits of various artists and/or albums to the
history of rock music, feel free to email me directly at drfuller@ualr.edu.
I'll be more than happy to school some of you younger whippersnappers on the

Personally, I believe that no Yes is Rushy Yes. They just don't seem to
be similar to me. Their approaches to music may be similar, but the music
itself is certainly not. If you don't like Fragile, then I don't think
you'll like Yes. Try THE YES ALBUM on for size though.

Sorry to be rude, but what's the deal with Alex's groin in the photo
inside 2112??? Did he think he was Jim Morrison??? If anyone saw them
live during this time period, was that sort of thing a highlight of the
show???

Hi All,

I have also noticed that he has more trouble with the older songs, which have
dense keyboards or guitar. Examples are Limelight and Subdivisions from
Rush'n'Roulette 92, which both exhibit off key notes.

Having said that, it must be quite hard for Geddy to sing in key at all.
It's not as if he has nothing else to do :)

Hello Rushians,
it's only my second post, but I've read a lot of the back issues and can't
find mention of these things so I figured that I'd email them:
part one of Post - Look at the cover of PW *very* closely. You can see the
picture of the boy with the binoculars in the right hand tv screen, very
faintly.
part two of Post - Who is the boy with the binoculars? I heard rumour (from
a classmate) it was Alex's son? True or false
part three of Post - What does that guy say at the start of Alien Shore on
CP? Sounds like "Babbabol!" although it's probably not.

Subject: Rush and Christians

Bill Meyer asks:

| A question has been on my mind. Are there any Rush freaks/fans on this list
| who are Born-Again Christians?

While I has an aversion to the term BAC and don't unite myself with
them, I nonetheless am considered religious. I believe, as I suppose
they do, that God lives and that Jesus is His Son, and I worship accordingly.

That said, I am likewise a HUGE Rush fan. You name a song and I'll
tell you which album and cut it is, etc.

One summery Sunday afternoon, I was driving someplace with the windows
down and Red Barchetta playing very loudly. A car pulls up next to me
at a red light and the guy starts saying something to me. I turn down
the music and hear him say "I used to listen to Rush, but now I listen
to the Lord's music." To which I replied "I love the Lord, but that
doesn't mean I have to suffer through that music."

I appreciate their music and many of their ideas. I don't see a
conflict between being a Christian and a Rush fan, but I'm sure some of
the "fundamentally" bent believers *could* take exception.

Subject: Review, low sound & best friends

Hey RUSH Buds!

I'm wondering if anyone can provide a review of sorts of either the
"Atmospheric" RoIO or the "La Villa Strangiato" RoIO. I'm looking
into picking these up to add to my growing collection of RUSH RoIO's
and VoIO's and would like somebody who has them to provide an
objective review. In other words, track listing, highlights, jams, sound
quality, etc..just the usual. Thanks in advance for any info.

[ Check the Rush web home page. Reviews for both CDs are there (and
     both are very good choices! :-) : rush-mgr ]

Anybody ever notice that when RUSH first comes on stage, the first tune
is usually a bit lower in sound than the rest of the show? It's like it
takes them a song or a song and a half to perfect the mix. I remember
the first time I took my girlfriend to see them and they opened with "Force
Ten" and part way into it _she_ stated that the sound was a bit low. I
remember telling her to just wait for a minute and it would go up. Sure
enough, "Limelight" was the next tune and the opening riff about knocked
us over. Then when big Al did his classic tremelo "dive bomb" at the start
of the solo, the decibel level went right through the friggin roof! As soon
as he hits that solo, the sound always gets like totally perfect. Just a
thought....

Oh, and to comment on Tracy's post in NMS 1115 regarding the unspoken
bond we develop with RUSH without them knowing us (or us really knowing
them), YES!! It's like having three best friends who don't even know
you. Anyway, I agree 100%.

 To whom it may concern-

Kansas does not have a song called "Fly at Night" I do believe that
the fellow who saw Kansas at the Flaming Gorges show saw a laser show
there prior to Kansas that had "Fly By Night" by the boyz playing for
the laser show.

On the brand spanking NEW Kansas album "Freaks of Nature", on Intersound,
the opening song is titled "I Can Fly".
If you remotely like Kansas you should get this new album because it kicks ass
in a big way and it is the album Kansas fans have been waiting for for at
least 15 years.

My sincere apologies for the lack of Rush content.

Howdy Rushies Everywhere!

Dino calling. In response to Bill Meyer's inquiry concerning "born
again" Christian RUSH fans, I consider myself to be one. Although I don't
practice my particular faith like I should, I do consider myself a follower of
Christ's teachings. I personally experience no problems whatsoever listening
to RUSH or hearing Neil's words in song. Sometimes Neil's philosophy is in
conflict with my own personal beliefs, but that doesn't mean I have to avoid
listening to his comments altogether. Part of the human experience is deciding
for oneself what is "truth." Nothing that Neil or anyone else says will
necessarily affect my own personal beliefs. We all have the FREEWILL to choose
for ourselves.

In response to Branden Robinson, first I'd like to say a hardy "GO
BOILERS !!!" I am an alumnus of that fine and distinguished institution of
higher education (Ph.D., 1987). What I'd like to comment on is rush-mgr's
response to his inquiry about whether "Oracle: The Dream" was ever played live
by the boys. Are you **absolutely** sure, rush-mgr, beyond a shadow of a
doubt? I will admit that several years of substance abuse has destroyed a few
billion neurons in my hemispheres (sorry- I couldn't resist!), but I'm almost
convinced that long, long ago they played the song "2112" in its entireity. It
was the very first time I ever saw RUSH (March 8, 1977, at the Norfolk, VA
Scope Coliseum), and they backed up Kansas. If my oft-times faulty memory
serves me correctly, that was all they played-- just "2112" in total. Gawd, I
wish I had paid closer attention to it then; I really didn't appreciate their
set as much then since I was a Zep freak at the time. Incidentally, at that
point in time wasn't A Farewell to Kings completed or at least in production?
I don't recall a single song being played from that album or any other album
for that matter. I'll admit I was a bit stoned that night, but not any more
blotto than any other concert night! I usually have a fairly decent memory for
live shows.

Sorry so long, but I just wanted to respond. Woogie, woogie!

Subject: re Camera Eye Opener and BAC Rushers

     How do fellow Rushians!

Just started with TNMS and I LOVE it! It's so nice to read the
opinions of people who don't say "ooh , how can you listen to that
guy's voice?" every time they ask you what music you like.

Brian Kohler talked about his ideal opener for a Rush show:
     >Okay, it is useless to make a statement like this, but what the hell:
     >"The Camera Eye" is absolutely killer and I think it should be the
     >opener on the next tour. I still get shivers when I put it on, even..

This is very scary! He just described my ultimate Rush opener! Right
down to when the lights kick in! Maybe throw in some laser flurries
to match Alex's guitars before Neil's drums come in but otherwise...
I became a Rush fan around GUP so I never saw The Camera Eye live.

As far as BAC Rushers are concerned,(yikes!) I can only say that the
upcoming discussions should be interesting. From listening to people

Subject: Rush and the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame

With 45 days yet to pass before the opening of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame,
I just can't get this vexing question off my mind: Does Rush have a fair
chance of being inducted? Or any chance at all?

Of all the books on the history of rock I have read, it seems that the
majority have eliminated all references to Rush. As if Rush had never
contributed anything significant to the music scene, or had never inspired
other successfull bands. And most of the books that did include Rush, only
provide minor details on the band.

It seems that Rush will be excluded here too from the Hall of Fame. I'm not
quite sure of the qualifications by which the Hall of Fame panel uses to
evaluate people. Was Rush even considered to be a potential inductee? I am
rather lost in this huge conundrum!

After all, isn't this just some grand popularity contest to please the
majority of music listeners?

Any answer would be greatly appreciated.

Branden,

Thanks so much for the thorough Set-Lists from the various Rush tours. Nice
attention to detail!! Here's a few notes to update...

Permanent Waves Tour: the set list was accurate, except they certainly played
more than just the Prelude to Hemispheres. They actually played the whole
thing (sort of...) Ya know how the Appolo and Dionysus segments are
repetitious.. (Dont get me wrong, I dont mind!!!) Well, on that tour to save
a few minutes, after the Prelude, Geddy sand a sort of combination of the
first part of the Appolo section and the second half of the Dionysus section,
(sort of squeezing both sections into the length of one section!!) Then they
continued to play the remainder. Just to be absolutely accurate, I should
mention that the segment of the show in which they played the Trees, Cygnus
X-1, Hemispheres, and Closer To The Heart, was ALL ONE CONTINUOUS PIECE OF
MUSIC!! In fact the amazing rear-screen visuals really brought it all to
life...If memory serves me, as they finished the Trees, the screen showed a
forrest of trees as the camera then panned upward toward the evening sky. As
the opening SFX of Cygnus followed, the lyrics to the "constellation of
Cygnus..." narration scrolled up the screen (very similar to the "Galaxy Far
Far Away.." credit from Star Wars... The screen then showed the Rocinante in
space, followed by a dramatic Black Hole animation segment... Similar
spectaculat visuals through Hemispheres... (I remeber the lightning crackling
during the "Thunderbolts Across The Sky..." portion.) Finally during the
Sphere, the screen displayed the two halfs of the brain slowly moving towards
eachother (as on the LP cover), they unite and suddenly take the shape of a
human heart which revolves on the screen...after a few revolutions, the
acoustic strains of Sphere fade to the intro the Closer To The Heart, at
which time the human heart transforms on the screen into a valentine shaped
heart....

Finding My Way WAS in fact part of the Medley that year, coming in right
after the reggae version of working man. I think Beneath Between Behind was
actually after Passage To Bangkok that year.

Moving Pictures tour ... it might be worth mentioning that they played the
Surf song "WipeOut" in Los Angeles on June 11.

The March 1985 dates in Florida: Just FYI they actually played Marathon and
Mystic Rhythms during soundchecks...

BUT HERE'S THE HOT ONE....... There was a one off Celebrity Jam on July 23,
1983. This swas a benefit concert at Pier 84 in New York City (some type of
Tennis Club charity show???) Only Geddy and Alex performed, but they were
joined on stage by other guests.
GEDDY LEE - BASS, KYBDS, VOCALS
  ALEX LIFESON - GUITAR
PHIL EHART (of Kansas) - DRUMS
STEVE WALSH (of Kansas) - VOCALS
and memebers of MR.BIG.!!!!! The set included:
Closer To The Heart (very wierd to hear non-Neil drumming!!!)
Dust In The Wind
Addicted To That Rush
Instrumental Jam
In The Mood
Carry On Wayward Son

well thats all for now.. Sorry so long. Buenos Noches Mein Froinds.

Hey all-

An addition to MudpieGuy@aol.com 's post concerning the comical side of
the boys when they're on stage, especially during a certain show on the CP
tour. During all three shows on the tour I attended and the bootlegs of
the CP shows which I own, Rush tends to get a little goofy. They always
introduced 'Cold Fire' as the new direction the band was taking - country
western, and in fact, I think I remember them taking at least a minute or
so on the radio broadcast CP premier show to discuss the same topic. As
for Alex introducing himself, Geddy and Neil with odd names... I've seen
Geddy introduced as Howard Stern and Neil as Tony Bennett, and Alex was of
course, always Fabio. BTW, I would love to see Alex sing on 'Closer to
Your House'!! Anybody got a copy? Well, that's all for now - anyone else
    have strange live Rush memories?

Yes you can miss! I have this friend who is really into the Grateful Dead,
and he is attempting this method with me. Let me tell you...it doesn't work.
He has this 6 disk CD changer in his truck which is constantly loaded up with
6 Grateful Dead CD's. Never anything else. He is also a Rush fan, BTW. I
just wish that he would put something else, anything else, into his CD changer,
but it never fails: Grateful Dead...all the time. I like to call this musical
indoctrination. It is as annoying as religious indoctrination, in my opinion.
The reason that I do not like the Grateful Dead is because I do not like the
sound of their music. Sure, they have some great lyrics, and they are also
quite talented...but I just don't like their sound no matter how often I listen
to them. I can appreciate the lyrics by reading them, but when those lyrics
are put to music, it just doesn't do anything for me. Certainly you can under-
stand where I am coming from with this.

> I think once he hears--really HEARS the music like I do, he'll be a fan, or
> at least he'll come to respect my convictions of the Boyz. I know I probably

The above paragraph sounds just like this friend of mine...bearing his test-
imony of his deep admiration for the Grateful Dead. Look at the first sentence
in the above paragraph where he says "really HEARS the music like I do...".
This just might not happen...face it. I am a dedicated Rush fan, and I am
certain that my wife, for instance, cannot hear the music like I do. I am a
musician and can appreciate the technical nature of Rush, she cannot hear the
music in that way. I find Neil's lyrics facinating, but she doesn't. I like
hard rock, she prefers other types of music. My point here is that if you
attempt to sit your friend down in front of your stereo and indoctrinate him
(ie: brainwash) into Rush music...you will not achieve the desired affect.
He just might not like their sound. From your comments above, I can see that
this may sound a little hard to believe since this music is a "soulmate kind
of thang" to you, and you also sound like the type who is constantly listening
to Rush ("Rush-this and Rush-that") and no-one else. My advice is to lighten
up and discover some other music. Show your friend that you have varied
musical tastes. Rush is a great band with exceptional talent, we know that.
Others wont always agree and that's just the way it is. If your friend doesn't
like Rush, fine. No biggie. Don't let it bother you.

Heya, RUSH Buds,

I was talking with a really close buddy of mine the other night and
we got to talking about how we've remained pretty good buddies
since the third grade ( we're 25 now). Anyway, we were commenting on
how (and this may sound silly) RUSH has been a major influence in our
lives and in our friendship. Where everyone else was always just a RUSH
fan, we've always been the true die-hards who probably take RUSH's
music a little too seriously. It's like their music has had some kind of
profound effect on us, because no one forced us to like this band and
follow their music as closely as we do. It just kind of happened through
the years. We both *more* than just identify with the music, we pretty much
live it. Anyway, sorry to ramble.

Now, here's a list of kooky things we've experienced at RUSH shows
through the years:

Alex falling off of the stage (for real) at one of the Grace Under Pressure
Shows

Someone throwing one of those glow-sticks on the stage during "Red
Barchetta" and Geddy stopping the show for a few seconds.

Alex reflecting a laser off of his mirror pick-guard on his red "Hentor"
strat.
This was at one of the Power Windows shows.

Alex introducing himself as Brian Denehey (the actor)

Geddy singing "I feel red, I feel blue, I feel yellow, I
feel.....checkered!" at the
end of Red Lenses. The stage turned red, then blue, then yellow, then
nothing. He faked the lighting guy out.

Alex breaking a string during "Red Barchetta" and Geddy erupting into
a MEAN bass solo.

Alex surfing on a real surf-board during "Wipeout" at one of the Presto
shows.

Much more to come....

Brian (I think I like RUSH too much to be normal) Kohler

Subject: Some thoughts about listening to Rush

Hello Rushia,
Good to see some people from the uk posting here, Rush get a raw deal in
this country.
The thing that I just thought of, sitting in front of a Mac LC2 in a hot
and sunny afternoon in central london, is that I tend to listen to Rush,
and only Rush for ages. Like about a month actually. Anyway, by then I just
know every song inside out, so I play other stuff for a week or two. Like
Suzanne Vega, The Cure, Virgin 105.8 (one excellent radio station) Nirvana
(I AM SERIOUS!) All ABout Eve, anything but G, A and N.
And you go back to them.
And the music hits you as sweeter and more powerful than before.

Just my .02 for today. I'll post a rather touching story about how I got
someone hooked on Rush tomorrow.
Thank you very much, goodnight!

Subject: Cool Places to Listen to Rush

Hi Rushians,
As you may know Rush are virtually unknown here in UK, so it's rare to find
another admirer of the band's work. Anyway, I was on a camping trip (in the
Lake District as it happens) last summer. I took along my walkman and two
tapes: Presto (great album, especially The Pass) and a compilation with bits
of CP, AFTK, MP, 2112 and PW on it. I played it a lot, needless to say. One
night, the guy I was sharing the tent with asked to listen to Rush, to see if
he liked them. So I played the tape.
He was hooked from the first bar of Animate. Really dug the CP tracks. Then
into Tom Sawyer (that sealed his fate I think :-) and Red Barchetta. By now
the volume was right up, just right for YYZ and Cygnux X-1 Book 1, which blew
him off the panet.
I don't think he thought music could get much better, but when Big Money
kicked off he loved that too, and Territories. The last song on the tape was
Spirit of Radio, and that just took him right out of this galaxy.
Well, the whole area is almost untouched, and when I compare it to some of
the places in London I totally understand Neil's intense concern for the
environment. It sometimes seems like it's too late to turn the tide, but I
don't think it is.
Thanks for the bandwidth -- "this is not a false alarm this is not a test"

I just got an advance cassette of Dream Theater's new e.p., "A Change of

On side 2 is live covers of Elton John, Zeppelin, Queen, Kansas, Deep Purple,

BTW, side 1 is a 22-minute version of "A Change of Seasons," which is finally
released legit when this e.p. comes out September 19.

Subject: Christian Rush Fans/Prog Rock Favs

Hi there folks. In response to Bill Meyer who asked if there are any
Christian Rush fans out there I would like to say that my wife is a
devout Rush fan and a Southern Baptist (but a feminist, kinda weird
eh). Be cautious with your friend. Although I would never suggest
that Neil writes satanic music, he is an Atheist and that will offend
some Christians. For instance my wife doesn't really care for the
Lyrics on "The Big Wheel" or "Ghost of a Chance". Now no flaming my
wife, she loves most of Neil's lyrics but does disagree with him in a
couple of lines in those two songs. If you think about it, shouldn't
we all disagree with him from time to time, I don't agree with anyone
else 100% of the time.

As for this whole Yes string. If you don't like whatever Yes album
you own ... try it again ... then try it again. Those old recordings
can be a little rough till you get used to them. I do not suggest
"Close to the Edge" as a first Yes album. It is probably the best
album in Prog Rock history, but you need to get used to the band
first with albums like "Going for the One" or "The Yes Album". If
this doesn't work then try some early Genesis (with Peter Gabriel).
I strongly suggest "Foxtrot" and "Selling England by the Pound".
These are great recordings but sound different than modern recordings
and like Yes will take a little getting used to. I went through this
whole exploration of early Prog Rock a few years ago having been a
die hard Rush fan since 1982 but needing something between albums.
There is quite a bit of fantastic music out there. It will not
"sound" like Rush (if it did that would make Rush a copy of Yes) but
it will have those great time changes, nice orchestration,
interesting harmonies, and melodies rather than "hooks".

Take it easy folks,

Greetings Rushland,

does anyone else besides me have misgivings about Alex's solo effore
 - that should read -- effort? Not that it may cause strife in the band?
or perhaps signals Al's dissatisfaction with the band?

This will/has effected Rush anyhow. How many of the musical ideas
out down by Alex might have appeared on the Rushlbum? What would they
have sounded like with Geedy's input? Or Neils lyrics and drumming backing
them?

It's just me, I realize they won't go on forever, but after having
grown up and for the past 17 yrs or so I have been spoiled rotten by
this bands prodigious output. Seemingly there was always another release
comming and the band was for the most part creating music amongst themselves,
with little outside help. I do know who the exceptions are so there is
no need to correct me there.

Alex , even of such tender years , has been reared and weaned to the

HOT DAMN - he was probably conceived to the dulcet tones of Alex ,
Neil and Ged.
When "Counterparts" is put on , he recognises the intros straight

Subject: Rare stuff

 Hi everyone,

My name is Todd Nelson, and I'm a ph.d. student and devoted RUSH fan. I have
just joined this list and am enjoying it quite a bit. I've been a RUSH
fan since 1981, and I consider them the cornerstone of my musical interests --

the standard against which I compare other bands. I won't state the
obvious (well, actually I guess I am doing just that...oh, well) in
saying that like you all, I believe that RUSH are the deities of
 the rock world.

In high school, a friend and I were collecting EVERYTHING we could get our
grubby hands on that had to do with RUSH. We had all the buttons, posters,
t-shirts, tourbooks (well most of those), etc. You get the picture. Anyway, I
have a few GEMS of my collection, that I wanted to tell you about, and get
your reactions to.......I don't think I'd ever part with these, but if someone

were talking several hundred thousand dollars....then I might be persuaded :)

Here are a few of my prized possessions:

 1) an official tour book from the FAREWELL TO KINGS tour (circa 1977).

(I've also got all the tourbooks from Moving Pictures through Hold your
 fire)

 2) a concert bill (about 14" wide by 2' tall) from the MOVING PICTURES tour
that announces that MAX WEBSTER is opening for RUSH. On the front at the top
is the RUSH name written as on the front of Hemispheres, and then there is som

white lightening from the tip of the "R" down to the "Man against
conformity" symbol from 2112 at the bottom of the poster. It is quite
 cool.

 3) are you ready for this? --- I have an 8-TRACK (yeah, an 8-track) of
PERMANENT WAVES. 3 things make this unique and rare: 1) it is an
8-track....who has those anymore? 2) it is an 8-TRACK of RUSH -- even more
bizarre! and what makes this REALLY valuable....3) the headline on the paper
on the cover of the album (8-track) was NOT deleted.....so you can clearly
see the famous "DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN" headline....quite rare.

 4) a tour shirt from the PERMANENT WAVES tour. It has seen better days, but
 I still love it.

What do you all think of my small but somewhat rare collection of RUSH items?
 Reactions, comments?

Look forward to hearing from you all......
